May 2009 into sept

So I am now playing steel on the road with Wayne Hancock. I came in as an emergency sub and ended up taking the full time position. Its a super fun gig playing with some great musicians. Wayne is the real deal when it comes to this scene. So far its been a joy for me. I'll be touring pretty constantly so keep an eye out for him and you will see me soon. I am also moving to Austin Tx as my home base. I will miss Brooklyn and my friends there. I love my little neighborhood of Red Hook. Austin is looking pretty sweet also.

Feb 18th 8:00 I'm playing with Stuffy Schmitt at The Living Room . Stuffy is a great writer/singer and the band is rocking.

Feb 28th at 9:00 I'm playing with my own band at Jalopy in Brooklyn. We will be playing some of my own new music/ improvisational compositions along with other pieces with a few of the greatest players on the planet in a jazz quartet format.

I hope everybody had a good summer this year. Mine was pretty exciting and productive. The clear sparkly night sky the last few evenings means fall is coming. Just one more week of gin based cocktails and white shoes left.

My own music aug 21

I am doing a show of my own at Barbes 8:00 on Thursday the 21st

And I'll be playing pedalsteel. The music is a sort of improvised chamber music.
The players are really amazing and will have plenty of opportunity to stretch out.

Barbes is at 9th st and 6th ave in Park Slope Brooklyn. It is my favorite listening room in Brooklyn.

Fred and Ginger

In my quest as a kid for the ability to fly I watched Fred and Ginger dance when one of there movies was on tv. It looked like they were getting pretty close.

Well I haven't been keeping up with my internet self promotion these days. I've been so busy rockin for the people on my steel guitar that I have been neglecting the internet. I figured it would get by fine without me for a couple weeks. I was thinking about learning how to work on my website because it is getting patheticly out of date. But every time I think about learning that stuff I find myself more interested in transrcibing a Johnny Hodges solo. Or walking around with my dog. Or eating a cookie. Or taking a nap....

May 30 daytime private party for the legendary Ricky from Hank's at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. It will be daytime and weird. I helped open up that place back when I had a job about 20 years ago. One of my first steel guitar gigs was playing with Patsy Montana at the Cowgirl back then. I was one of those mid level management guys with a couple screws loose that just sorta wandered off the grid. The things I wanted cost time instead of money and the job thing was really cutting into my day.
